And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him.

What indignities our gentle Lord Jesus suffered at the hands of those rough soldiers as they thrust a crown of twisted thorns on his lovely brow, jeeringly calling out to him, Hail, King of the Jews. A few hours later they stripped him again and nailed him naked to a Roman cross, bearing the mocking superscription, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. One day they will look on him whom they have pierced (Zech.12:10) and marvel at the glorious appearance of the King of Kings in all his triumphant splendour. A contrast for us to consider joyfully today!
