He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

Despite having found him totally innocent of even the slightest wrong-doing, Pilate had our Lord flogged, thereby fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy, I offered my back to those who beat me. (50:6) How deeply it touches our hearts to think that God’s beloved Son, our glorious Saviour, offered his back for beating. Isaiah also wrote he was pierced for our transgressions. (53:5) What praise we bring as we consider what he so willingly suffered for us!
