“I am with you and will watch over you…. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Sleeping that night at Bethel, with a stone for a pillow, Jacob probably had a pretty uncomfortable night. Despite this, he fell asleep and dreamt, and what a dream! Jacob saw a ladder stretching up into heaven above which stood the Lord, assuring Jacob that he would keep his promise to Abraham and Isaac and would not leave him until it was fulfilled. We can be similarly comforted by those reassuring words: ‘I will not leave you’. None of the Lord’s promises to us will ever fail.
