“I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut … I will drive him like a peg into a firm place; … All the glory of his family will hang on him.”

Isaiah 22:22-24

The Lord Jesus would seem to be referring back to this passage as he speaks in Revelation 3:7. He is the One who has opened many doors, including our access into the heavenlies, and no one can shut that door. He is the One upon whom our whole hope hangs, and we are a part of his family. It is his glory that we can reflect for we have nothing of our own with which to boast. Isaiah’s writing tells of the downfall of Eliakim as a peg that gave way. It’s where the picture falls short of the reality, for our Lord Jesus will never crumble or let us down.
