Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world.

1 John 2:15-16

Contemptus mundi is Latin for contempt for the world. Its systems, politics and alluring attractions are not from God, and are in stark contrast to what the believer in our Lord Jesus should love.

Amor mundi is Latin for love the world as in God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son … (Jn.3:16) We are to love the people of the world and bring the gospel of hope to those who are perishing.
