When the star footballer Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona for Paris St Germain, remarkably 25 million fans switched their football club allegiance to follow where he went. Human nature is designed by the Creator to worship, and the only person worthy of such focus is God. God is replaced with valueless icons at great cost to the ‘lost’ worshipper. That can be completely missing out on the grace God offers through Christ for eternal salvation.
Also, though this applies to those who already acknowledge him but lose sight of his worth, relegating him to a position behind something/somebody else. The grace God offers daily may be spurned as a result. That has serious impacts.
