Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
1 Corinthians 14:1
As we read on, Paul makes it clear that Biblical prophecy is telling out (as the Greek word meant) the mind of God from His word—in the Old Testament as in the New. That included foretelling. The purpose was to build up, encourage, challenge, or warn, and so is of continued great value.
