Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:27-28
It’s clear that some of those gifts were for the first spread of the gospel of Jesus as the Christ to counter entrenched views in Judaism and spiritism. They were then withdrawn (see 1 Tim. 5:23, 2 Tim. 4:20—why weren’t they healed at once?) We read on to find those gifts that were to last.
