Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”

Samuel had just witnessed another victory over the Philistines that God had given Israel; and seen another prayer for help answered. It wasn’t, of course, just thus far; we read that the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. Are there not times in our lives when we have also experienced the Lord’s help? Does this not give us confidence for the future? The Lord’s faithfulness will never fail.
