Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, ‘This is what is written:
The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached
in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.’

Luke 24:45-47

Those who walked to Emmaus in one frame of mind … walked back in another one! The disciples’ minds were also brought into a new understanding. Preaching would become the watchword. Peter would later say there is salvation in no other name, though it took him until Acts 10 to appreciate the ‘all nations’ part.
We have the Holy Spirit to assist our understanding today, but we need to read and listen carefully. The Lord does not use empty words.
