Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Let your hands be strong, you who in these days have been hearing these words …”

Zechariah 8:9 (ESV)

What were the words with which the Lord was encouraging the people of Israel? The promise, that they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in faithfulness and righteousness. A wonderful promise that we can draw strength from two millennia later: the faithful and righteous One will be our God too. The words of the much-loved hymn, Great is Thy faithfulness, remind us that, Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not; as Thou hast been Thou for ever wilt be. (T O Chisholm). Let our hands be strong for him.
