Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek…call…forsake…turn! That’s the way back to God. Mercy is not getting the bad that we deserve.
The hymn by Samuel Davies puts it like this:
Pardon – from an offended God!
Pardon – from sin of deepest dye!
Pardon – bestowed through Jesus’s blood!
Pardon – that brings the rebel nigh!
Who is a pardoning God like thee?
Or who has grace so rich and free?
