When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

2 Chronicles 7:1

Solomon’s prayer was in dedication of the temple, God’s house on earth. Today, we enter heaven itself as we remember our Lord Jesus. We are overwhelmed as we consider how our great sacrifice was consumed by God’s wrath falling on him on the cross. We ask again the question posed in J B Belton’s beautiful hymn: How could Thy heart such love conceive, to slay Thy Son and us receive? (PHSS 99) How true the words of the last verse, Great God, Thy love all love excels. What a privilege to remember him this morning!
