We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Hebrews 2:1

Paying attention is often a problem at school – not listening as the mind was away somewhere else. This verse is giving a warning of not paying attention to God’s Word with the consequences of drifting away from the anchor of the truth taught in his Word. The risk is the anchor slowly gives way, and drifting turns into being drawn into the fierce current of the world, and then quickly away from the Word of God. This affects our life of service for him, not our salvation. This is one of the many warnings given in Hebrews to believers.
