When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”

The Lord waited till Peter had eaten before dealing with the unresolved question of Peter’s devotion. Peter had boasted of greater love than the other disciples, then denied knowing him. This had to be addressed. How directly, yet sensitively, the Lord spoke to Peter and repaired the damage.
