Is this the Lord commenting on an element of creation that generates much debate? The current rate of the expansion of the universe is extrapolated backwards at a fixed rate to arrive at the point of the Big Bang. But if God chose to make the rate of expansion something varied, like blowing up a balloon which would slow down as it gets bigger, the calculations used by scientists would be inaccurate. (see 2 Pet.3:4).

Does the English translation in the NIV refer to galaxies too, an unknown feature in Isaiah’s day?
