Because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.

Acts 18:3

Paul, although called of the Lord to do his work, had to work at his old trade of tentmaker for 1½ years in Corinth. His two close friends, Aquila and Priscilla, worked together with him in both their secular and spiritual work. Every Sabbath he reasoned with the Jews and Greeks preaching, teaching, and instructing them in the ways of the Lord. His secular work did not hold him back from declaring the whole counsel of the gospel to those Corinthians.
