This verse was quoted by Martin Luther King in his famous ‘I have a dream’ speech, delivered in Washington nearly 60 years ago. He applied it to the time when all Americans would have equal rights regardless of colour. But its true fulfilment will only come when our Lord returns to earth to reign. Perfect peace, unwavering righteousness and absolute justice, will characterise his millennial rule. But before that day dawns, he will come to the air to take us to be with him forever.
