‘Even my close friend, someone I trusted,
one who shared my bread, has turned against me.’
The picture is of a trusted friend making a surprise attack, hardened to the writer’s appeal. So our Lord was deserted by those who for three years had shared in his daily care for them, and especially by one who first stole, and then betrayed them all.
Let us meditate on the faithfulness of Jesus today, and rise in praise for him before the throne above.
