‘Make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer.
It is to be salted and pure and sacred.
Grind some of it to powder and place it
in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you.’

Exodus 30:35-36

The incense protected the high priest in the presence of a holy God. Spices that spoke of purity and suffering, and the preserving, cleansing, expensive salt of the covenant (Lev.2:13), all depicted the giving of the only Son of God into death for our sins, and its fragrance for the Father.
