‘Set aside for yourselves three cities in the land
the LORD your God is giving you to possess …
divide into three parts the land …
so that a person who kills someone
may flee for refuge to one of these cities.’

Deuteronomy 19:2-3

God’s provision for justice was in place for his people, to prevent family feuds taking more than was due. Another three cities were to be granted this status across Jordan. There was also permission on the death of the high priest to return home, forgiven.
So for us today, the death of our Saviour cleared our debt, and he, as our great high priest, invites us to return in worship to God.
