Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress
to keep it from the Midianites.

Judges 6:11

Once again Israel was being oppressed, constantly being invaded by the Midianites. Hence Gideon’s unusual choice of threshing floor. God was able to use this resourcefulness. Under his guidance, Gideon chose an equally unusual arsenal – torches, clay jars and trumpets – with which to fight the Midianites. He was victorious because he trusted in the Lord rather than his armaments. Gideon followed the advice of the Psalmist, commit your way to the LORD, trust also in him and he shall bring it to pass (Ps.37:5). Sound advice which we would do well to follow.
