The King of Israel answered and said,
’Tell him, ‘Let not the one who puts on his armour
boast like the one who takes it off.’’

1 Kings 20:11 (NKJV)

Very sound advice! An equivalent phrase used in English today would be, don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched! It’s the same sentiment. Of course, from a Christian standpoint, we should never attempt to anticipate the future, but simply leave it in God’s hands, confident that he knows what is best for us in every circumstance. As our lovely hymn puts it, God holds the key of all unknown, and I am glad’ (PHSS 190 – J.Parker). He has plans for us, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’ (Jer.29:11). Let’s leave it to him!
