When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week,
he appeared first to Mary Magdalene.

Mark 16:9

Peter told Cornelius that after his resurrection, Jesus was seen not by all the people but by witnesses whom God had already chosen (Ac.10:41). Only those who had put their trust in the Lord were among this most privileged group of witnesses. The first one chosen was Mary, who thus became the first disciple to hear her name on the lips of the risen Lord as he greeted her in the garden: ‘Mary.’
How sweet that must have sounded to her ears!
On a coming day each of us will hear our names on the lips of the One who calls his own sheep by name (Jn.10:5). What a wonderful prospect!
