‘Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.
You should have practised the latter, without neglecting the former.’

Giving a tenth of garden herbs to God had value, but the weightier matters should never have been neglected.
‘Faithfulness’ could instead be translated ‘faith’, and this is needed in loving God, and in keeping the other commands. It’s keeping faith with him.
