Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly … after he put them all out he … went in where the child was.
These were probably professional mourners paid to articulate the family’s sorrow. They filled the house with their presence and their noise. When Jesus spoke to them, they laughed. Only when the house was still and quiet did Jesus go in to see Jairus’ daughter.
We need to make sure that our days are not so full of noise and bustle that there is no place for Jesus to direct and change our lives.
