First Love

  • to provide practical helps to inspire, grow & maintain meaningful relationships with the invisible God
  • to remind us that our love response to God’s love transforms our lives and the lives of others

God deserves our total devotion and absolute love, simply because of who He is. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself repeated the Old Testament command saying,

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

Sadly, our sin turns us from loving God to loving almost everything else! Thankfully, with our new birth we receive a new heart with new affections for God. But the old sinful nature persists in drawing us after things outside of God.

Convention 2019, FIRST LOVE, will remind us of who God is so that our love for Him will be stimulated and our lives transformed as we deepen our love-relationship with Him.

Our keynote talks (Stephen McCabe and Kev Hickling) will consider

  1. the Lord Jesus’ challenge to the church of God in Ephesus (Revelation 2) – to pursue the love and resulting actions they had when they first
    became believers serving together, and
  2. Paul’s reminder to the church of God in Rome of what love in action looks like.

Group sessions will be practical reminders of the ‘habits of grace’ (see David Mathis’ book of the same title) that God has given to us to help maintain our relationship of love with Him. We’ll then move from the theory to practice, with dedicated time to put words into action, encouraging each
other in our pursuit of God.

These groups will be divided according to life stage – there’s a group for primary school kids, one for younger teens, another for older teens and twenties, then several groups (including female only) for those who are ‘busy & working’ and for those over 55. Each group faces different life challenges and shared empathy and experience is bound to be a great encouragement.

With the usual opportunity for fellowship and praise (and food!), Convention 2019 is a not-to-be-missed event.
