We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

Satan is a master craftsman of deceit and lies. He is opposed to God and believers who belong to the Lord Jesus. One target is to influence our thinking using various means. Paul is exhorting the Corinthian believers to examine their thoughts and those which are against the mind of Christ take captive. That means not letting those ideas have on-going presence in their minds. Someone has said to imagine standing by a stream, putting that bad thought on a leaf in the water and allowing it to float away in the current.
