“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

John 1:29

The sin offering was a familiar temple sacrifice. The guilty one laid his hand on the lamb’s head, as if his sin was directly responsible for its death. Instead, God accepted the death of an innocent lamb, and his sins were forgiven. This, said John the Baptist, is what Jesus – the Lamb of God – came to do for us.
