I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!

Galatians 2:21

If ‘being good’ and ‘doing good’ cancelled out the times when we aren’t quite as good as we’d like, then we’d have something to boast about. However, God cannot ignore the rottenness at the core of human nature. That’s why Jesus had to die. He bore our sins, so that when by faith we rest on his finished work of redemption, God imputes the perfect righteousness of Christ to us.
