When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him …
Had those two disciples in Emmaus heard about the last meal Jesus had shared with the twelve? Is that how they recognised him? Or did they see his nail pierced hands as he broke the bread and gave it to them? Whatever the reason, their eyes were opened, and they knew this was Jesus.
No nail pierced hands break the bread for us this morning, but we too recognise our Lord Jesus in the emblems and worship him with burning hearts of praise.
