Immediately his mouth was opened
and his tongue set free,
and he began to speak, praising God.

Luke 1:64

Zechariah had been silent since Gabriel had come to him in the temple at the time of the burning of the incense. Zechariah had been silent because he had not believed Gabriel’s message from God, and his speech had been taken from him. Zechariah was silent until the promised son was born many months later. How lovely that when his tongue was finally loosened, his first words were to praise God.
