Not much of a gift for the one who had all the vast riches of Egypt at his disposal, but it came from the meagre resources of famine-struck Canaan and touched Joseph’s heart.
The widow’s mite had a negligible impact on the Temple’s treasury, but impressed the Lord Jesus, who commended her: ‘But she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.’ (Mk.12:44) What can we offer in worship this morning to the One who was appointed heir of all things? (Heb.1:2) We too can give him our very best; give him everything!
