Hardly an appealing prospect, until we realise that denying ourselves actually frees us from the burden of selfish pre-occupation. It brings blessings to others. The cross of Christ represents ultimate freedom and victory over the oppressive regime of this sin-stained world. We can do that as a daily choice, in the strength and encouragement that the Lord himself provides, as the One who has already gone before us.
