“I do not ask that you take them out of the world,
but that you keep them from the evil one.”

John 17:15 (ESV)

I wonder what Peter thought hearing these particular words. Did it remind him of the Lord’s earlier warning that evening, ‘Simon, Simon, behold Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail’? (Lk.22:3) Two very significant ‘buts!’ The Lord never promises to remove our problems to give us an easy ride! Rather, he will pray (RV: will make supplication) that we’ll come through the trials stronger and more determined to serve him better.
