In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So, a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab.
Famine strikes hard, but God saw it coming, and expected his people to stay in the land he had given. The famine was the result of failure to heed his law and love him and love their neighbours.
What about the faithful? Famine is not selective! He wanted them to trust him and through this difficulty, to learn greater dependence on God.
