‘This is what the LORD says: are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?’

2 Samuel 7:5

A searching question, with an answer that David must have found difficult to accept: ’No!’ How did David – who God described as a man after my own heart (Ac.13:22) – deal with his extreme disappointment? With zeal. He put all his energy and effort into preparing what was required, and encouraging, and supporting the chosen builder, his son Solomon.
God’s house today may be already built, but it needs maintaining so that it is still flourishing when the Lord returns. Do we share David’s zeal for Gods house? Does it consume us as it did David (Psa.69:9)? It should.
