So, Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns, and weapons.
What a travesty! A band of soldiers came to take the One who could have called more than 12 legions of angels to his defence. They came in the darkness with lanterns and torches to find the One who is the Light of the world. Armed to seize the Prince of Peace, when he identified himself they fell to the ground! Wonder of wonders, that he allowed them to seize him! Why?
Because of his great love for us. For that we return our thanks and praise this morning.
