We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith;
your labour prompted by love.

1 Thessalonians 1:3

Clearly the works that the Thessalonians were doing for the Lord were well grounded, a true ‘labour of love’. Unlike those whom James criticises, (Jas.2: 20), these saints had their priorities right. Their works were a product of their faith in the Lord Jesus. Serving him was a natural consequence of their salvation. As Paul makes clear a few verses later, they had turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven (v 9-10).
Working while waiting! Not a bad ethos for us to imitate today!
