And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs… she said to herself, Let me not see the death of the boy.
For the second time Hagar had fled from Abrahams household into the wilderness in despair; and both times an angel of the Lord had found her. On each occasion God had promised – first to Abraham, then to Hagar – that through her son Ishmael he would make a great nation. When Hagars own resources were exhausted and she was ready to give up, God stepped in, supplied her needs, and turned her despair into hope. God forgot neither Hagar nor Ishmael, nor his promise.
Nor will he forget us. Ever! He will not leave you or forsake you. (Deut.31: 6)
