While he was blessing them,
he left them and was taken up into heaven.

Luke 24:51

I’m reminded of the well-known saying: all good things come to an end. Well, this is the exception! The One who parted from them, has promised to return – a promise we’re still waiting to be fulfilled. At the start of the chapter we read that the disciples were sad when they thought they’d been parted from him, having found his tomb empty. That parting was short-lived, and they saw him again in resurrected form, opening their eyes and their understanding of the testimony borne to him in the Scriptures. Scriptures that bear witness to his promised return: ‘If I go…I will come back’ (Jn.14:3).
