After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
How long the disciples continued gazing into the cloud were not told. But it took an angel to jolt them out of it! Why do you stand here looking into the sky? (v11) was a pertinent question. They could not stay there, they had places to go and things to do! Into Jerusalem to await the anointing of the Holy Spirit; then into the world to make disciples. Their last glimpse of him was his nail-pierced feet. A powerful reminder to them, and us, of his love and of our commission to tell others about it until we are taken up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (1Thess.4:17).
