Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything is coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God.

2 Corinthians 3:5 (ESV)

Paul is answering the question posed in the previous chapter: who is sufficient for these things?’ (2:16). Not him, he readily admits! So, if such a well-educated and experienced man as Paul isn’t up to it, what chance do we have of coping with ‘these things’ and living a victorious Christian life? Remarkably, just the same as Paul, since we don’t have to rely on ‘our’ sufficiency (wisdom and power), but God’s! As Paul told the Corinthians in his first letter (1:24), Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God’. We can echo Paul’s claim: I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Phil.4:13).
