Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

John 19:40

Joseph and Nicodemus, two of the Lord’s many ‘secret disciples’, came out into the open to give their Master a traditional burial, in Joseph’s own tomb. Mary Magdalene and the other women, coming to the tomb on the third day to anoint his body with their own spices, found those same cloths neatly folded; but no body. Puzzled and perplexed they heard these wonderful words echoing round the tomb, and down the centuries to us today: ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!’ (Lk.24: 5-6).
Praise God, we serve a living Saviour!
