When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, Dear woman, here is your son.
We seem to be eavesdropping here on a very private, and movingly poignant moment, as our gracious, loving, caring Lord made provision for his mother. As a new-born baby, cradled in her arms, his mothers loving eyes would have been the first thing he saw. Now, as his life ebbed away in agony, those same eyes, still loving, but now dimmed with tears, would have been amongst the last, along with those of John, his friend and faithful disciple. Can you imagine a scene that better epitomises the loving, compassion of our wonderful Saviour and Lord? Praise his name this morning!
