Nobody should seek their own good, but the good of others.

1 Corinthians 10:24

What a contrast to the attitude in today’s ‘me first’ society! The Lord Jesus was the most unselfish person who ever walked this earth, and in his letters Paul encourages us to follow his supreme example. You should, he wrote, ‘consider others better than yourselves’ (Phil.2:3) and ‘carry each other’s burdens’ (Gal.6:2), because ‘in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ’. It’s not just in holding the door open for someone that we should always be saying, ‘after you’!
