May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us.”

1 Kings 8:57

Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the Temple reveals his acute sense of history. He was claiming God’s promise to Moses, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Ex. 33:14); and echoing the words of his father David, ‘For you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you’ (Ps. 9:10). How wonderfully these promises were endorsed by our Lord Jesus who says, “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matt. 28:20).
