When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Mark 14:26

They had kept the Passover and the Lord had initiated the Remembrance and now his ‘hour had come’. Before he left the Upper Room to take the last few steps on the tough journey to Calvary, they sang a hymn together. I have often wondered what it was. Possibly one of the Songs of Ascent? From those psalms my personal choice would be Psalm 122, in which David declares, ‘I rejoiced with those who said to me, “let us go to the house of the Lord.”’ This morning, as we contemplate his sacrifice, let’s be glad to do so and ‘praise the name of the LORD’ (v4)!
